THE SALTY PAW JAZZ ORCHESTRA, Puerto Vallarta’s First and only youth-based jazz orchestra, will be returning to the Act II Main Stage on Sunday, December 3, 2017, 8 pm for their presentation of A Salty Winter.
The Salty Paws’ first performance was hela on Act II Main stage and was jam packed with enthusiastic, cheering audiences. These kids are amazing, developing as jazz musicians in leaps and bounds – incredible, considering the group was established only last September!
The "Salty Paw Jazz Orchestra" or "Pata Salada Orquesta de Jazz" is characterized by instrumentation in the style of a Big Band Orchestra. The members mainly consist of young musicians learning jazz improvisation – their definition of jazz encompassing 3 major categories – Swing, Rock and Latin Jazz. While the usual big band consists of saxophone, trumpet, trombone and rhythm section, the Salty Paw Jazz Orchestra includes flutes nad violins as well totaling over 20 members. They have already given several fundraising concerts – at Act II Stages in Puerto Vallarta, The Breakers Beach Club Restaurant and Bar in Bucerias, and Plaza Caracol in Puerto Vallarta, and several presentations at The Jazz Foundation on Puerto Vallarta´s Malecon. They aspire to give concerts in other venues throughout the country.
The whole thing got started when several talented young musicians heard the Puerto Vallarta Big Band whose lead Alto saxophone is founder director Victor Kris. Inspiration struck and a jazz workshop formed. Led by the young, impassioned Founder and Director Victor Kris, it quickly, with the help of Biblioteca Los Mangos and others, evolved into a full jazz ensemble – and expanded beyond the usual jazz instrumentation, and includes violins and flutes adding innovative dimensions to the ensemble. Shortly afterwards, the founding members voted to name the jazz orchestra “Salty Paw” or “Pata Salada,” which means a person from Puerto Vallarta.
Diana Valeria Villamonte took Puerto Vallarta by storm last night. And this is one storm we can hope will never go away. Run do not walk to see her next show at the Red Room next Tuesday at 730. No doubt it will quickly be sold out.
I've been struggling to write something to capture the mood of the evening… Probably my most important contribution to this will be to say that I saw it last week (with friends) and I'm going next week (with other friends)! My husband, Gholi, loves the music and said, "When can we go again?
My husband and I just attended a cabaret at Act II. We were so excited to get to see three beautiful young ladies in the debut of "TRINITY!" This show featured the last three winners of the Voice of Vallarta singing competition, and they were great! I’m so excited to find such great talent here in Puerto Vallarta, and will definitely go back to Act II on my next trip!
As a full-time resident of Puerto Vallarta, I always look for things to do in the summer! Last night, my husband and I had the opportunity to see the fabulous first Thursday night show of Act II's "Spotlight on Vallarta" Summer Series! Danny Mininni, owner of Act II, told us that the series is designed to recognize and promote local talent during the summer season. So, local resident, Gabe Arcineaga, put on a show that could easily be rival any cabaret show in the U.S! Gabe is already a seasoned actor and he toured with Charo "back in the day," but this was his first performance in a one-man cabaret show setting! OMG!!
I have attended plays, groups of musicians in Stages and soloists in the Red Room and have nothing but a wonderful receptive time. Danny Mininni hosts a warm place to mingle with friends or make new ones while viewing top entertainment of many genres from all over the world, in addition to fantastic local talent. I urge everyone to check out this locale, as good as one would find anywhere. Puerto Vallarta s becoming a premier draw for music and acting fans.
We were looking for something unique and affordable to do in PV. We really enjoy local theatre/shows when we travel. The red room is an intimate space and staff were great. Show we saw with Mama Tits and she was a entertaining and motivational. Although we were only heterosexual couple it was a blast. Act II has range of shows available during higher season. I'd highly recommend checking this place out. We will return for future shows
This is such a bawdy good time! We have seen the Dueling Divas twice and Joanne's solo show once. They are great singers and fun entertainers! Costume changes and THOSE SHOES! What amazing range!
The time flew right by each time and I never wanted the shows to end! Laughed so much!
This is a definite stop each time we visit PV.
We first discovered Act II Stages in December 2015 on our first visit to Puerto Vallarta. We attended 3-4 evening performances in the Red Room that week -- comedy, singing, drag -- all good. We enjoyed it so much we returned to Puerto Vallarta in December 2016 and again went to Act II a few times. What a fun time! Highly recommend.
